Statement Regarding Online Learning for International Students
The COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges with respect to online and remote learning, particularly for international students who will not be residing in Canada this fall. There exists potential restriction and/or censorship of online course content by the governments of some foreign countries where international students reside. The Provost’s office has developed the following statement pertaining to the potential restrictions to international students’ online learning experiences as a result of remote learning.

COVID-19 Changes to Admissions Requirements
Due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many universities have offered alternate grading options to students with courses taken during the 2020 Winter term 2 (January to April). Therefore, we are temporarily adjusting our admissions requirements. Please note these changes will be reassessed for future admission cycles.
- Prerequisite courses taken between January and April 2020 will be counted toward the prerequisite requirements. Courses with a percentage or letter grade must meet the grade minimum of a ‘B’ or 72% in order to count toward the prerequisites. Courses that were assigned a ‘Pass’ or ‘Credit’ will be considered to meet this minimum requirement.
- The admissions GPA will be calculated using the most recent university senior level courses (300 or above) up to 30 credits. Courses graded as “pass” or “Cr” will not count towards the admission GPA.
- Applicants currently completing the last year of their undergraduate degree must submit the most recent transcript that contains all final grades for the September – December semester.
- UBC courses IHHS/SPPH 300, 301, 302, 400, 401, 404, 406, 407, 409, 410 and 411 cannot be used towards an applicant’s Competitive MPT Admissions GPA Calculation.
Applicants are required to have completed a minimum of 70 hours of volunteer or paid work experience which involves direct interaction with persons with cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities at no more than two organizations/establishments. Direct interaction refers to physical as well as verbal, or other virtual interactions (e.g. volunteering for a seniors’ support line, or interacting by Zoom). These hours must be completed by the application deadline. Please note, work as a receptionist, clerical experience, and working with elite sports teams does not meet this requirement.
Please note all applicants are still required to meet the minimum admissions requirements set by the Faculty of Graduate and Post-doctoral Studies.

Physics Prerequisite Update:
As of Thursday, May 23, 2019, the UBC Master of Physical Therapy program will continue to accept High School Grade 12 Physics, as well as all other previously accepted university level courses as prerequisites until further notice.
Starting with applications for the September 2019 cohort, all applicants will be required to complete the CASPer online assessment process. Details regarding the UBC MPT CASPer test can be found at https://takecasper.com.
The 8 digit number required to apply for the exam is your UBC student number. For those applicants who are not a current or former UBC student, you will receive this number once you have submitted your application to the Online UBC application.
Beginning with the 2018 Application, there has been the addition of a required written question to be submitted to the application by the January 15th document submission deadline.

Beginning with the 2018 Application, there has been the addition of a required document containing work, volunteering, experience, as well as any awards, distinctions you may have received. This is to be submitted to the application by the January 15th document submission deadline.

Beginning with the 2018 Application, please note that we will no longer allow the reuse of reference or practical experience letters from a previous application to the MPT program.
All applicants to the program, including those who have applied previously, must submit an updated reference letter from both academic references, and an updated practical experience form. The department will not allow the reuse of a letter from a previous application. The referee can be the same as previous years, but must submit a new letter/reference form,

Domestic applicants to the MPT program must now submit an online application NO LATER than 11:59 pm on January 5 2019. We will not accept a late application for any reason.
All documents (academic and practical experience reference letter, prerequisite form, proof of residency (if required), all official transcripts, Supplemental application fee, etc) MUST be received by 11:59 pm on January 15 2019. Late documents, etc will not be accepted for any reason. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that referees have submitted documents by the deadline.
