Mentorship Recognition Award Nomination

The annual Mentorship Recognition Awards (previously Clinical Educator Awards)are student-nominated and designed to recognize the excellence of clinicians for the education, supervision and mentoring of students.

One award is available each year for each placement level (e.g. one winner for a preceptor of a 2A or 2B placement) – up to three winners in total. Nominees can be a preceptor in a clinical setting. Please note that Department of Physical Therapy faculty members are not eligible. Nominees are eligible to win only once in a five year period.

Students (including graduates from the immediately preceding graduating year) can submit as many nominations as they would like (to a maximum of two for any individual Clinical Educator). Nominations should demonstrate how the clinical educator demonstrated excellence in each of:

  • Teaching
  • Clinical and education supervision
  • Mentorship
  • Impact on the development of physiotherapy practice and/or career choice

Nominees receive a letter notifying them of their nomination. Nominations are reviewed by a Clinical Educator Award sub-committee consisting of representatives from the student body (clinical education representatives), faculty and departmental clinical education committees. Note that student sub-committee members do not review nominations that they submit.

Selection criteria is based on points given for:

  • The student’s ranking of the Clinical Educator’s teaching skills
  • The student’s Nomination Statement demonstrating areas of excellence based on the four criteria listed above
  • The highest scoring nominations in each category (level 1, level 2, and level 3) are declared the award winners

Engraved awards are presented during the annual PABC Forum (when possible) and winners are announced on the website and Departmental news and social media posts.

Nominations are due February 15th. Submissions after this date will be applicable to next year’s award.
