The Master of Physical Therapy Program at UBC is one of the leading Physical Therapy Programs in Canada. Providing state-of-art labs and equipment at UBC’s beautiful Point Grey Campus in Vancouver and UNBC’s campus in Prince George. The program curriculum uses an integrated, case-based approach and is taught by the department’s award-winning academic faculty and a community of clinical educators.

As of August 2020, the MPT program will be fully-distributed giving students the opportunity to study at either UBC Vancouver or UNBC.

The University of British Columbia’s Physical Therapy Department includes four degree programs, a certificate series and an Internationally Educated Physiotherapist Exam Preparation Program (IEPEP), which provides training to assist internationally educated physical therapists for success in completing the Physiotherapy Competency Examination.

 

Masters of Physical Therapy program (MPT)
Our is our professional entry-level program training the next generation of clinicians.  Physical therapists specialize in the assessment and treatment related to movement. Masters of Science (MSc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The Department also offers training for the research-oriented student, enabling students to acquire a Masters of Science (MSc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, as well as receive post-doctoral training.  Faculty supervision is of the highest quality and provided by internationally recognized experts in several fields from neuroscience, orthopaedics, oncology, knowledge translation and others.

MPT/PhD program
This program provides an option for outstanding students with an interest in both clinical and research training relevant to physical therapy. The MPT/PhD program is designed to provide students flexibility in the completion of their concurrent clinical and research training, and to integrate their clinical and research learning, resulting in an accelerated completion time (approximately 5 years).

Online Master of Rehabilitation Science (MRSc)
This online Master’s program is designed for working health professionals and to enhance interdisciplinary practice. Unlike traditional thesis-based research master’s programs, the MRSc is a combination of courses and work- or practice-based research projects. The MRSc allows you to obtain a master’s degree without interrupting your work.

Online Graduate Certificate in Rehabilitation
This online program is for health professionals. It consists of five courses that help participants develop the essential knowledge and skills required for best practice in rehabilitation. Some learners who are not sure about taking a full master’s program will try one of these courses first and most continue on to do the online Master of Rehabilitation Science.  These courses may also assist internationally educated therapists in meeting certain educational standards required by the Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators.

Graduate Certificate in Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy
This certificate is offered as a mix of online and hands-on instruction. Graduates of this program (typically taken over a 2 year period part-time) will be eligible to apply for FCAMPT status as an advanced practitioner of musculoskeletal therapy. The GCOMPT courses may also be taken for credit towards an MRSc degree.

Tuition Fees

All Graduate Students at UBC are required to pay student fees which help cover the costs of resources available to students.

All MPT students will also pay a departmental fee of approximately $1100 at the commencement of their program to cover various fees such as an immunization review, criminal record check, lab fees, student accident insurance, and student kit.
